First-Time Home Buying Chronicle

First-time-home-buyerSo this is it—you have finally decided to go out and buy a house of your own! After doing extensive research looking into the South Jersey region, you have settled on moving here. Well, now what? While the home buying process may seem daunting first-timers, it is really simple when it is broken down.

The first thing you are going to want to do after researching the region you plan to move to is to contact American Dream Realty of South Jersey to select your realtor. You will be confinding with your agent every step of the way, and they will do everything in their power to make sure that you are happy and comfortable during the entire process. Once you select your agent, you are going to want to sit down with him or her to discuss the things you want in a home (number of bedrooms, bathrooms, etc.). At that meeting, general guidelines will be laid out by the agent regarding how the process will go, and what you can expect from them during the process. Also, they will provide a list of homes which fit your criteria available in the region you are looking to buy.

After you meet with your agent, the fun begins: looking at houses! Don’t be shy when it comes to looking at properties, but do make sure that you properly space them out in the week, or else they will seem to blend together. Try to visit each house on the list that your agent gave you, and try to narrow down the choices, preferably down to one.

Once you are settled on a house, the next step is to make an offer. Your American Dream realtor is vital at this stage, as they will assess the fair market value of the home, and together you will determine what would be a fair offer. Now, you make the offer to the other party, and start negotiations. Remember, everything is negotiable.

At this point, it is in your best interest to get a home inspection, as it can uncover problems unbeknownst to both you and the seller. If you are happy with the inspector’s report and finalize negotiations, you will do a final walk-through of the property. This will be your last chance to back out if you are unhappy. However, if you are satisfied, then the closing will commence, where you will sign countless documents, and finalize the sale. Once the last page is signed, you can give yourself a pat on the back, because the home is now yours!

See, the home buying process isn’t that daunting, now is it? With the right resources, like an American Dream realtor, your first-time buying adventure will go as smooth as silk, and end with you walking away from the table hearing a new pair of keys jingle in your pocket.
