Selling in a snowstorm

 In News

real-estate-shoveling-snowWinter storm Jonas sure put a whopping on South Jersey as a whole, leaving mounds upon mounds of snow in its wake. For many, snow puts a damper on everything, as multiple days of cleanup ensue. For others, especially those who are selling, it may seem like the end of the world, as you may think that a colossal snowstorm is enough to ruin your chances at selling. Well, we’re here to tell you this week that there is no need to worry about the snow while selling a home, and give you a few tips on how to brave the (snow)storm.

In the winter months, one thing you need to consider is what may go wrong with your home due to increased precipitation and/or decreasing temperature. So, if you know you have a leaky roof, or if you are finding out after this snowstorm that you do, the best case scenario is to get that fixed right away. If you cannot, make sure you tell your American Dream realtor, so we know what to adjust and take into account for at the time of closing.

Another winter selling tip is to make your house seem more warm. Not in the literal sense, but in the sense that it is more inviting and cozy. If you have a fireplace, it may be a good idea to turn it on with potential buyers inside, or at least put a log in it. Also, maybe consider having guests take off their shoes when they come into your home, as to both make them more comfortable, and eliminate the amount the muck that is tracked into your home.

Finally, we have landscaping—shoveling snow. While it is not necessary to shovel all 16 inches that Jonas dumped on your property, it is absolutely necessary to shovel your driveway and walkway. We will say it again: you must shovel at least your driveway and walkway. It is such a simple task that can prevent accidents and attract more potential buyers. All other landscaping and snow removal tips are optional, but if you are selling your home, you must shovel out a path.

You only need a few simple tips to make your house pop in the winter time, even in the midst of a snow storm. Sure, you may be at a disadvantage in the winter, but with a little dedication, and the help of a American Dream realtor, you can sell your house in no time.
