holiday southjerseyDecember is undoubtedly a magical month of the year, with aromas of chocolate, crisp pine, and cookies all in the air. It seems as though every little thing goes to make this time of year such a special occasion, but for some reason, South Jersey makes the holiday season extra special. Is it the abundant friendly faces, the oh-so pleasant scenery, or the small-town atmosphere that makes December so jolly? We’ll leave that answer up to your discretion. For now, here’s some happenings in South Jersey that you can experience and see first-hand why South Jersey is such a special place, without ever having to leave the warmth of your family.

With activities abundant this holiday season, there are a few South Jersey traditions that you definitely would not want to miss, as they are the definition of South Jersey uniqueness. Pennsville Township in Salem County will be hosting a “Soldier’s Christmas” at Fort Mott State Park this Saturday, December 12th. This all-day event kicks off at noon, with a wreath laying at Finns Point Cemetery, and then lantern tours of the fort from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. The tours will show different soldiers throughout our nation’s history, and will explain how they all celebrated Christmas. Hot chocolate will be available at all points throughout the day, and kids are more than welcomed.

In addition, Salem Community College will be hosting a winter concert on Sunday, December 13th at 3 p.m. Come out to see the Oak Singers, and the Woodstown High School Brass. Tickets are $7 and available at the door.

In Gloucester County, just take a drive around any of our historic towns, and you will see such a magnificent lighting display that rivals the North Pole. Christmas lights have been a long-lasting tradition in Gloucester County, and it is ever so strong this year. Take a drive to Pitman Grove, and you’ll see a beautiful display of dazzling lights that has been a town tradition for the past 25 years. Not only that, but Gloucester County is home to some of the best Christmas tree farms in the state. You’re guaranteed to find the perfect tree for your family; one that jolly old Saint Nick would love to leave his presents under.

South Jersey has this niche of doing everything in its own, unique way, especially when it comes to Christmas. Just take a drive through, and you’ll realize why it is such a great place to live. Once you finally decide to make the move, we’re here to help you with anything and everything you need.
